My work embodies a direct relationship between naturally-occurring pattern and a personal involvement with ceramic forms and surface. The layering of plant leaves, the texture of cloud formations, and occurrences such as eroded rock surfaces describe a rich and varied array of texture that lends itself to interpretation in clay. Pattern, created by the layering of thrown clay strips in the formation of the ceramic vessel, refers directly to such phenomena while allowing for personal expression.
